Ibovespa Rises 1%, Boosted by GDP Data and Election Climate

Published on Updated on

The Ibovespa rose 1% in response to the announcement of Brazilian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth above market estimates and the intensifying election race. Confirmation of better-than-expected economic performance has encouraged investors, even amid a tenser political backdrop.

GDP and the electoral landscape

According to a survey, Brazil’s GDP grew 0.5%, beating the median of projections from 62 consulting firms and banks, which pointed to a 0.4% increase. Although the result represents a slowdown from the first quarter of 2026, it reinforces optimism among economic agents. At the same time, the election race is becoming more competitive, with candidates focusing on issues such as the economy and security.

Influence of interest rates and the exchange rate

On one hand, the expectation of rate hikes by the Federal Reserve (Fed), the U.S. central bank, and on the other, the possibility of a Selic rate cut in Brazil this month, have affected the attractiveness of the real against the dollar. This dynamic has a direct impact on financial markets and on the appreciation of the Brazilian currency.

Investments and financing in the spotlight

  • GLP Japan’s fund announced a contribution of 1.7 trillion yen for the construction of 30 to 40 large facilities, including financing.
  • Companies will have up to 15 days to file financing applications, directly with banks or through partner financial institutions.
  • The Ingka Group, which controls most Ikea stores, together with other franchisees and the brand owner, Inter Ikea Group, announced an investment of 1.2 billion euros aimed at lowering consumer prices.

Other relevant developments

About 4,000 people remain missing, including 590 foreigners from 39 different countries, in a situation that is mobilizing international authorities. On the electoral front, a candidate from the Missão party has been gaining ground, drawing closer to figures such as Javier Milei and Nayib Bukele by prioritizing the economy and security in his platform.

In the technology sector, the threat of a strike comes at a time of strong demand for memory chips used in equipment that employs artificial intelligence, which has limited global supply and boosted the segment’s profits.

Financial results from Chinese companies showed significant growth. Revenue at one of them rose 69%, reaching 32.1 billion yuan (equivalent to US$ 4.8 billion), reflecting gains in the global market.
