In recent weeks, dry weather and high temperatures have fueled fires that hit rural areas in Mato Grosso, Tocantins and Rondônia, causing significant damage to farmers and the environment.
Fire hits Jangada, MT
In Jangada, in Mato Grosso, the fire consumed 120 hectares of sugarcane and spread into cattle-raising areas. In a video recorded in the region, cattle can be seen fleeing the flames. The situation forced some residents to leave their homes to protect themselves.
According to the Fire Department, the fire was intensified by wind gusts of about 40 km/h, as well as dry vegetation and unmanaged pastures, which allowed the flames to spread quickly. On Dogmar Rockenbach’s farm, more than 40 residents of neighboring properties joined forces to try to contain the fire’s advance.
São Miguel do Tocantins faces fire in settlement
In the municipality of São Miguel do Tocantins, the fire destroyed 50 hectares of vegetation inside an agricultural settlement where approximately 150 families live. Firefighting efforts lasted more than 24 hours and involved the local Civil Defense. No injuries or damage to properties in the area were reported.

In Mirante da Serra, Rondônia, the flames were larger, affecting rural properties and an environmental protection area. Authorities are investigating the causes of the fire, which worried the local population and environmental experts.
